Abstract

The Melville N. Lincoln journals consist of 35 handwritten and typed journals kept by Melville N. Lincoln, former Curator of Habitats at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. These personal journals document the daily activities of Melville Lincoln throughout his career at the Museum, and include daily logs, habitat group work, meetings, and collecting expedition notes.

This collection consists of newspaper and magazine clippings containing articles and advertisements relating to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the La Brea Tar Pits, Otis Art Institute and related personnel, exhibitions, and events.

The Roland J. McKinney Collection documents the activities of Museum Director Roland J. McKinney from 1939-1946 and is comprised primarily of correspondence, county audit reports, legislation, and photographs and incldues correspondence regarding the Otis Art Institute, Museum name changes, Hancock Park, and exhibitions development. The collection also includes United States Navy provisions for use of the Museum in the event of emergency during World War II.
